H.S. girls basketball: Thursday's Games to Watch

Northern Highlands (2-1) at Indian Hills (1-1), 7 p.m.

The Big North Freedom Division teams have gotten off to solid starts. Northern Highlands has beaten Hackensack and Paramus and lost to Immaculate Conception. The Highlanders are balanced on offense, with seniors Madison Grossman, Sarah Minchin and Tori Reich all capable of posting big performances. Sophomore guard Breanne Davis is formidable from the perimeter. This is also a team that just plays hard from the first minute until the last. Even when the Highlanders fell to IC, 84-36, their effort never dwindled.

The Braves boast a lot of athleticism and experience. Senior guard Aileen Carey is a sparkplug at both ends of the floor, and senior guard Alex Martins is an excellent shooter. Junior Angela Saric gives Indian Hills height in the low post, and is an aggressive rebounder. This could be the start of a strong season for the Braves, and a win against Northern Highlands would be a significant early-season accomplishment.
